Mickey Bridges: Bio

Mickey Bridges

Mickey Bridges

Mickey Bridges was born with a natural gift to play the saxophone. Mickey’s father also played saxophone earlier in his life. He recognized Mickey’s musical ability and purchased a used sax for Mickey to play at the early age of nine. His father showed him how to play a few tunes and then agreed to pay for Mickey to take private lessons. This activity was short lived as Mickey had difficulty sticking with the discipline of practice and he eventually quit. However, Mickey never stopped playing his horn. He continued to play with out formal training other than what was offered at public school. The saxophone became a way of life for Mickey. It was an activity that he truly enjoyed but he never had any hopes of pursuing it as a profession. It was and still is therapeutic for him. It became his way of looking at and dealing with the world. It has been and continues to be his “door opener”. He has been invited, accepted, and embraced in circles which, under normal circumstances; he would have never even been invited.
Mickey’s mother was opposed to him becoming a musician. She wanted him to choose a career that would hold more prestige and stability. Mickey was torn between career choices for a good part of his youth. He finally successfully completed several degrees in areas other than music. After having done so, he decided to pursue his musical dreams and aspirations.

In 2004 Mickey released his first CD entitled “Inspiration & Reflections.” “Inspiration & Reflections” is a compilation of gospel musical selections that were made popular by other artists. The next project “Facets” plagued Mickey for nearly twenty years and was finally completed and released in the fall 2006. “Facets” consist of all original lyrics and has elements of jazz, old school, R & B, and Rap all fused together. “Mickey’s Mood”, was released in November, 2006 and is a tribute to classic standard love songs that were written and made popular by other artist during the 1960’s and 70’s. Mickey’s latest musical contribution entitled: “Step To This” which was released in September, 2007, is an up tempo soulful jazz project with elements of fusion and blues. This one is sure to bring recognition and attention to someone who has been paying dues for a mighty long time.
